Chasing after video game achievements is no better than being a rat in a maze. Some secret placed in some dank corner of some RPG world, finally unlocked, gets you a virtual crumb of cheese; now, go get another, while people watch; more rats join the maze–Gamerscore, Trophy Level–more crumbs of cheese gained; everyone turns left, turns right, and all guided by some developer’s teasy-treat–a virtual badge that you can’t even sew on a jacket; left, right, an achievement for an achievement. You never truly go anywhere, the rats never truly get anything. You sure put a lot of effort, truly, into getting those teasy-treats.
