An author does a lot of work behind the scenes to get a book ready for publication. After the manuscript is written–the easy part–a host of technical tasks are further required: copy edit, illustration, interior design, and so on. Heap on additional obligations with a publisher, a publicist, an agent, or whoever else is making the book happen, and an author might just pull his or her hair out before the book finally sees print.
Well, I am happy to say that the book is ready for proof. Proofing is an author’s labor of love: I’ll be combing through printed pages and printed pages of text, slowly and carefully looking for errors down to the least significant of commas. I probably shouldn’t grumble about the effort because I really care that the book looks it’s best.
So, the book is one step closer to the April publication. I’ve attached a poster that is extracted from an internal illustration, viewable when the book is finally in print and digital.
